An interview on how Irv Gotti listens to Unsigned Artist, and his first run in with rapper Rick Ross. Check it out!
This goes hand in hand with the DJs! People don't realize and some DJs don't realize how important it is for DJs to break records! I'm going to keep it real, where I'm from Fayetteville, NC (reminder I already said this in a laptop party in my hometown in front of homefront DJs). Our DJs there is so talented.... but they don't break records! Atlanta DJs record breakers, New York DJs record breakers, the VIPs of the industry of the are the DJs! People are going to listen regardless, so DJs to be let the crowd intimidate you not to put on someone locally, not at an underground party, a club, radio, weddings, parties, etc...... DJs!!!!! BREAK OUR RECORDS!!!!!!
So at the end of the day... it's about who you know and respecting the DJs... And I'm out!
A short snippet from a seminar by Disc Makers. He gives great advice on how to make an artist instantly signable. Please watch the video, it's a bit dated, but below the video I will add on for a more updated version to what he says. Take a look!
Now for those of you who knows me as a rap artist, and those of you who don't, I admit I have only been rapping for little over a month. BUT!!!! I've been behind the scenes for a while. I've worked with Konvict for a hot second, International DJ Trade Association, I've operated and started a modeling agency, coordinated fashions shows and various event and video shoots. SO with that being said I've been on the outside observing, before I came in. What this gentleman says in the video is completely correct and should be taken into consideration, and be followed. But since in today's market with the digital media you need to add on to that. From seeing and watching, no record label is going to sign you if you are not already hot! The days of you just being talented and the label mold you into a superstar, is over. You have to be the full package already! You have to have a huge fanbase, your twitter needs to be crazy, facebook profile up to compacity and FB fanpage crazy on likes and/or subscribers, it's always good to have myspace still, reverbnation needs to be pumping, and videos you put out needs to have stupid numbers within the first week, and so on and so on. You need to have your mixtapes made and selling like hotcakes, crazy downloads of your music! You need to have an image set in place and the comfortable and entertaining stage presence. You need to have press kits, graphics, your CDs need to have graphics... OMG I could go on and on. But pretty much if you not already popular in the game as an unsigned artist, forget about it! Let's put it this way, the labels are trying to eat! They like their meal tickets to be hefty and make them full, fuck that diet food...Right! So to add a little advertisement in here, lol, musiccleaners.com can definitely help you on your journey to success within the music industry. So at the end of the day, there is always something you could be doing to make your brand better, don't cut corners, it's your career take pride in it..... AND I'M OUT!!!!
For those for you who still insist on signing with a major record label, we here at Music Cleaners believe knowledge is power. This still goes hand and hand with the indies, because this still valuable information to know how to market yourself, for the potential to actually make money to preform. Check this video out.
What he says is so true, I understand that Wayne and Nicki can switch from Hip Hop to Pop to Rock to Country, but always remember this.... You can't do everything you see someone else do. I understand you probably can do a better job, but the reason why major artist like them can do it and you can't, one they are already established, and they didn't start off rocking like that. Also, they have a 60 million dollar campaign behind them. Which you don't posses, and how I know you don't posse it cause, you would be extremely famous by now. And if you do posse that and still are not famous.... Hunni you need to persue something else.... So at the end of the day, find one thing and stick to it and stay committed and true to that. And if you are not sure what direction to run with, do what he said, do a mixtape with all the styles you can produce and let your fans choose what the like the most. It's always a process and always remain humble.... AND IM OUT!!!!!
Below is a video of Industry Attorney Kendall Minter, and he breaks down exactly what a 360 deal is. This pretty a more in depth look from the blog on yesterday. Take a look this goes for everyone in the industry ( singers, rappers, models, etc.)
So, everyone running after these record deals... all ya'll running to do is to , excuse my french, get bent over and f**ked! Now I know Im rapping now, but one thing I don't want to do is get signed with a major label. Im signed with an independent label, that it's foundation is for independent artist. Im in all the meetings and I work closely with the production team, also we went over the contract together where it makes sense for both parties. I use to work for a major label and I tell you it's tough, I remember an artist needed some extra money and he was hot in his town, so he charged $1,000 for him to preform. Me, I was in the company meeting when the label reps heard about the show, they ended the meeting early so they can go collect their money, and literally said that's our money! Whoa! right.... only thing that artist really got was a car.... but at the end of the day remain independent. But let me also say this, TALENT YOU NEED A CONTRACT!!!! I know what I just said, but still at the end of the day you still need a contract to move your project further. As talent it's so unprofessional you representing yourself, I only say this because you are so passionate about your craft that you can't remain professional if someone says something you don't like. It's better to have a team fight for instead of you fighting for yourself. And to be blatantly honest, the paper pushers (professionals), don't respect the talent. Even models, no one wants to see a model with an opinion... your job is to sit there look how they want you to look and take the pictures or walk how they want you to do it. Im also an event director and choreographed and directed a few shows and personally I remember all those models who gave attitude or talked back, I will never work with them again. It's not meant for you to represent yourself, hire help! Let me stop before I really go off..lol but please all talent... stop worrying about getting signed and get representation please!!!! Thank you!
Check Out this video behind the scenes in the music industry. I admit it's a bit dated, but same rules still applies, so watch and learn.
With this dated video from about 10 years ago, now the game completely changed.... with record stores now a distant memory, and the recession, it's definitely not the same. Free downloads and everyone in the world now has ADD and can't pay attention for longer than two minutes, it's so much harder getting into the business. Everyone is rapping now, and no one is paying for your records, it's tough.... no one is eating in the game, even labels! Now they have 360 deals, brief definition (everything you do entertainment wise: Shows, Endorsements, Acting, Walk Thru, EVERYTHING!!!) they take a cut. So how do you really think you can make money in the industry?????????? two words.... STAY INDEPENDENT!!!! It's ok to work with a small indie label and work hands on with your project and really look at the contracts. That way your getting back what your putting out. So, few words of advice... stay independent (IT'S OUR TIME!), and get a side hustle besides rapping.... nothing is free out here...
